This notice explains, in plain language, what personal information Cucina Bettie collects through this website, why, and what your rights are under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who we are

Cucina Bettie is a traditional Italian trattoria at 17 Chaucer Road, Senderwood, Bedfordview 2007, South Africa. We are the “responsible party” for the personal information described here.

For any privacy question or request, email us with “Privacy” in the subject line. Our Information Officer is the owner of Cucina Bettie.

What our contact form collects and why

When you use the “Get in touch” form we collect your name, surname, phone number, email address, your message and whether you ticked the newsletter box. We use these details only to:

reply to your message, booking request or question;
send you our newsletter, but only if you ticked the box (see below).

We do not sell your details or share them with anyone for their own marketing. If you do not give us your details we simply cannot reply to you by email or phone; you are always welcome to call or visit us instead.

Our newsletter is sent only with your consent

The newsletter box on the form is unticked by default. We only send our newsletter to people who tick it. Every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe, or you can email us at any time and we will remove you straight away.

How long we keep your details

Enquiries: up to 12 months after our last contact with you, then deleted.
Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.

We may keep information for longer only where the law requires us to.

Who else processes your details

We use a small number of service providers (“operators”) who process information on our behalf and are required to keep it secure:

Website hosting: our web host stores this website, including copies of form submissions, on its servers.
Email: form messages are sent from our website’s mail server to our Google (Gmail) mailbox. Google may store this email on servers outside South Africa, under its own privacy and security safeguards.
Google Maps: the map on our pages is provided by Google. When the map loads, Google receives your IP address and may set cookies, under Google’s privacy policy.

Links to Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok and WhatsApp take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.

Keeping your information safe

This website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and only authorised people at Cucina Bettie can see form submissions.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

ask whether we hold personal information about you, and for a copy of it;
ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date;
ask us to delete your information;
object to us using your information, including for direct marketing (the newsletter);
withdraw your newsletter consent at any time.

To use any of these rights, email cucinabettie@gmail.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za, email POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za.

We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
